The San Francisco Bay Area is buzzing this week with all the Super Bowl 60 activations and events, but as my banner proudly displays, us locals are on Super Bowl halftime host and big Grammy Night winner Bad Bunny sightings watch! Where in the Bay Area will he pop up before his big day on Sunday? While we ponder that, its been an interesting week of sports ball tidbits! This blog post is coming out on Thursday after 12 noon PST, because that is the NBA trade deadline, and there already have been a flurry of trades this past week, and lots of trade rumors, one of the biggest ones involves.... The Golden State Warriors: Who after fought to leave midfield mediocrity, after losing Jimmy Butler for the season, and Steph Curry out dealing with a nagging knee injury, the Dubs have been in a bit of a free-fall, and are looking to make a move before the NBA trade deadline.
The deadline has come and gone, and the Dubs main target, Giannis A, stays with the Milwaukee Bucks. Dubs DID make some moves though, with TJD (Trace Jackson-Davis) traded to the Toronto Raptors for draft picks ( I liked that kid!) for draft picks, and the one I, and most NBA basketball folk have been seeing coming for MONTHS, Jonathan Kuminga is no longer a Warrior, traded to the Atlanta Hawks, along with Buddy Hield (!!), for an injury prone 7-2 center, Kristaps Porzingus.
My hot take is that the Dubs management, once Giannis was not available to them, have decided to shed salary, and ride out the rest of this season. I'm getting that sense because Hield was part of that trade, and he has been hot of late being part of the Dubs 2nd unit, especially with his 3-point shooting, which is his speciality.
San Francisco Giants: I mentioned in the last blog post the Giants signed free agent outfielder Harrison Bader. A few days later, the Giants then signed infielder Luis Arraez as presumably their starting second baseman. This is a good news/bad news signing: Arraez has the hitting power, having led the league in batting average three times in his career, and he rarely strikes out. The bad news is that he is not very good on defense, and when you have a ground ball pitcher like Logan Webb on the mound, that could be trouble. ALso not good news for fans of Casey Schmitt, who many thought that 2nd base was his to lose this season, but now the buzz is he will be used as a super-utility player, and also could be trade bait later in the season!
I didn't have time last week to post a pic of Bader, but here is one of when he was just starting to play pro ball...I mainly chose this one for the "shirt"! :)

San Francisco 49ers: The Niners have signed Raheem Morris to replace Robert Saleh as defensive coordinator. Morris will have some big shoes to fill, but he and Head Coach Kyle Shanahan have worked together before, and most NFL pundits feel this could be a goof fit for both the team and Morris. To learn more about Morris' football history, and why he was the choice, you can check out this link below:
Tennis: Last weekend, the crowned the champions of the Australian Open's (AO) women and men's finals! First off, congrats to Elena Rybakina, who defeated two-time defending champion Aryna Sabalenka for Elena's first Aussie Open!

In the Men's final, history was going to be made no matter which player won. For Novak Djokivic, who has not lost an Aussie Open final when he participated, he would have become the oldest player at age 39 to win a Slam tournament. For Carlos Alcaraz, he would become the youngest player at age 22 to complete the four Grand Slams (other three being French, US Open's and Wimbledon). So congrats Carlos on achieving that goal, by defeating Novak in four sets! See you at the French Open later this spring!

Hockey: San Jose Sharks, heading into the Olympics break, have gone into a bit of a losing skid, having lost 4 in a row. Perhaps when they return from the Winter Olympics and to the Shark Tank in San Jose, a nice long home stand will set them right! While we wait, the Sharks players have started a tradition of going shirtless and wearing a shark jaw in post game interviews that they win at home! Phenom Macklin Celebrini was the first ( I actually saw this interview, so no AI BS here!).

Lastly, someone told me to up my eye candy game, so here is an extra dose of Carlos to quench your thirst! Happy belated birthday, Rob!
Winter Olympics start this weekend in Milan, Italy, so who knows what I will be posting here next! Thanks for reading!

Bad Bunny ... I'm thinking Mission district or Mission Bay, LOL
