Well, the NFL's free agency window opened on Monday, and for the San Francisco 49ers, it was a brutal day, with up to 11 players leaving the team for other teams, and some of these departures are just painful for the 49er faithful as several veterans and up and coming stars have signed with other teams. Below is the current list of those departures:

Kyle Juszczyk: This one hurts the most, as fans love "JUICE" and has been one of the longest tenured 49er. Last season Kyle took a pay cut to play, but wasn't going to do that this time around. At the moment, he has not been signed by another team.

Juice will be missed for so many reasons!

Dre Greenlaw was out almost all of the 2024 season from that freak achilles injury during the 2024 Super Bowl, but is considered one of the best linebackers, and he and Fred Warner made a scary one-two punch for any opposing offense. Niners really wanted Dre back, but he signed a three year deal with the Denver Broncos worth 35 million.

Speaking of the Broncos, they also snagged another popular 49er, safety Talanoa Hufanga, also to a three year deal worth 40 million. Hufanga was also plagued by injuries last season, but when healthy, was an excellent safety that also could rush the opposing quarterback.

Other players that were cut or signed elsewhere: running back Elijah Mitchell, pass rusher Javon Hargrave, offensive lineman Aaron Banks, defensive back Chavarious Ward, edge pass rusher Leonard Floyd are among the big names on both sides of the ball that have left the team. More players could still leave for greener pastures as players meet with teams to see if there is a match. So who have the Niners signed to the team? A skinny ledger so far, tight end Luke Farrell (to back up George Kittle), Safety Richie Grant, and resigned running back Jordan Mason (whew!)...that's it, at the moment. Rumor has it that Nick Bosa's older brother, Nick Bosa may sign with the Niners after the LA Chargers released the very skilled pass rusher, but older bro Bosa signed a one-year 12.5 million dollar contract with the Buffalo Bills. Just before I posted this, the Niners DID sign a decent backup quarterback, Mac Jones, who Kyle Shanahan really wanted to draft in 2021, but instead the Niners drafted Trey Lance, and the rest is history. Jones should benefit under Shanahan's tutelage.

Also, there have been rumblings that negotiations on quarterback Brock Purdy's new contract have been "difficult"; Purdy is expected to get a huge payday; I do see this deal eventually getting nailed down, but unless the cash strapped, salary cap struggling Niners can land some very skilled players in free agency and in the NFL Draft in late April (Niners 1st round pick is 11th, and they have 12 picks overall), this team, at the moment, is considerably weaker than the start o the 2024 season.

The Golden State Warriors continue to play well and try to hold onto that 6th playoff spot, winning games on the road, and currently at home. Against the Sacramento Kings, Jonathan Kuminga finally returned to the game after a three-month ankle injury absence, and Steph Curry scored his 4,000th 3-pointer, by far, the most in NBA history. Eight Warriors in double figures, Draymond Green with team high 21 points, Kuminga 18 points in 20 minutes and looked good (Podz is on the bench with the injury), Moody 17 points (he as been on a roll), as the Warriors win, 130-104. Dubs have now won 6 in a row, and are 13-2 since Jimmy Butler has joined the team! A very fast paced game, and tenacious defense, especially in the 2nd half was what made this game a win for the Dubs!

SF Giants: So far so good halfway thru Spring Training. College Basketball: March Madness selection committee comes out on Sunday; I have only a passing interest. If you find yourself entering the office pool, my guess for the final two is Duke vs. Michigan State.

Weird News Arena: "Life finds a way." That famous line from the Jurassic Park film comes to mind when it was reported that scientists have genetically-engineered some mice to become "wholly mice" ie, DNA to revive (?) the wholly mammoth mammal. Certainly nothing can go wrong from this "advancement in science! But they are soooo cute! Until they bare their teeth!

So, a new collaboration is set to hit the market in the spring, and only available during the Spring time only at 7-11: Peeps flavored ICEE's! Yep, the popular marshmallow flavored Peeps are now going to be an ICEE flavored drink! I know there will be mixed feelings on this, but I strongly suspect after I leave 7-11 with one of these bad boys, besides the brain freeze and potential glaucoma reactions, I will be greeted outside with this:

Last note on this blog post: A quick TV series review! Lost in Space on Netflix! I had low expectations for this show, also had no idea a new series was put out a few years ago, and boy was I pleasantly surprised! Almost every episode feels like a big screen movie (what the family Robinson goes thru in the debut episode alone is worth 3 episodes!), with action, adventure, mystery and just pure sci-fi fun! It runs for three seasons, and closes on the show's planned ending for the series. Parker Posey (currently starring in White Lotus) plays this version's Doctor Smith, and I'll just say if this Dr. Smith was a contestant on Survivor, she would win easily; Posey's portrayal is the most fun to watch as she is so into her own self preservation, she flips sides and cons and lies and manipulates almost on a dime! The show also does a great job explaining the young actor who plays Will Robinson's growth spurt thru the three seasons, there is even a line that Dr Smith gets off on the last season that alludes to that! Highly recommended viewing!

Danger Will Robinson, indeed!

Signing off until next time! Enjoy the people and things that you love! Cheers!
