What a strange week- that's all I have to say. Made for an interesting Grag Bag though!
College Football Rivalry Week is in full effect! Friday night It took #7th ranked Georgia EIGHT overtimes to beat its in-state rival, Georgia Tech, 44-42! Army also won their game, setting up the classic Armed Forces Championship next week between Army and Navy with both teams that are talented and with excellent records in a game that will really count for both teams!
Saturday, Michigan pulls off the monster upset, defeating #2 Ohio State, at Buckeye Stadium, 13-10. Then things got ugly, as Michigan disrespected Ohio State and planted their Wolverine flag in the center of the field, leading to a 20 minute all-out melee between the two teams. Police had to enter the field to separate players, to the point pepper spray was deployed!
Unedited video of the post-game brawl:
UPDATE: Both schools have been fined 100K each for the brawl.
#15th ranked South Carolina crushes #12th ranked Clemson's hopes of making the College playoffs with a 17-14 win. #9th ranked SMU rolled over the Cal Bears, 38-6, who did not have their starting QB Fernando Mendoza, who was out with an illness.
Next big upset made Clemson's loss less painful, as the unranked (not for long!) Syracuse Orangemen pulled off a stunner of an upset, beating #6th ranked Miami Hurricanes, 42-38! Miami was in control of this game until the 4th quarter, when Syracuse overcame a 13 point deficit to win the game! Why is this good news for Clemson? With Miami's loss, it will now be Clemson who plays SMU for the ACC Championship next week! Closing out the night, Oregon won it's game handily over Washington, and the Texas A&M Aggies, hosting the #3 ranked Texas Longhorns at College Station, TX (my goodness, what a massive crowd!) for the first time in 13 years, gave the Longhorns a good fight, but in the end, it was Texas: 17 Texas A&M 7. My next paragraph should be interesting, once i get the rankings after all these upsets!
The AP sportswriters DID punish those teams that were upset. The undefeated Oregon Ducks remained #1, but Ohio State dropped to 7th, Miami dropped to 14th, and Clemson fell to 18th, but as mentioned earlier, will play in the ACC Championship game against SMU this weekend, thanks to Miami's loss. This Saturday will have several BIG games, some that will determine which teams and where they will rank in the College Playoff grid! No. 1 Oregon vs. No. 3 Penn State in Indianapolis: For the Big Ten championship.
No. 2 Texas vs. No. 5 Georgia in Atlanta: For the Southeastern Conference championship.
No. 8 SMU vs. No. 18 Clemson in Charlotte, North Carolina: For the Atlantic Coast Conference championship.
No. 10 Boise State vs. No. 19 UNLV in Boise, Idaho: For the Mountain West championship.
No. 12 Arizona State vs. No. 16 Iowa State in Arlington, Texas: For the Big 12 championship.
Check your local (and ESPN) listing for which game is playing at what time. I suspect how i listed them here is Oregon game will be first, followed by the others.
49ers: Oooof. This is a hard one to write for several reasons. First off, in near blizzard-like conditions in Buffalo, the Bills easily coped with the conditions and defeated San Francisco, 35-10. During the course of the game, the Niners lost BOTH their running backs due to injuries, Jordan Mason with an ankle sprain, and Christian McCaffrey (CMC) with a torn PCL to his knee, which basically ends his season. Nick Bosa was out for another game with his oblique injury, but defensive back Chavarious Ward returned to action after taking time to mourn the passing his daughter, but defensive end Trent Williams, who protects QB Brock Purdy's blindside, is out on bereavement leave after his wife suffered not one, but two stillborn deaths of their twin sons. Very sad indeed. With the Niners in last place, and two games out from the NFC West lead, at the very best,
it's going to be a steep climb to even make the playoffs. Time will tell, but it just seems this 2024 team is cursed on so many levels, and it may be time to look forward to the 2025 season. Niners play at home against the Chicago Bears on Sunday.
Warriors: Turnovers that lead to over 30 points in opponents free throws will have a big impact on sliding into a five game losing streak, after the team started so well. With upcoming back to back games against the Houston Rockets and Minnesota Timberwolves, Golden State will be without Steph Curry (knee), Draymond Green (calf), and possibly Andrew Wiggins (ankle). Late Add: Thanks to a great defense, and Jonathan Kuminga dropping 33 points, the Dubs beat the Rockets to snap their five game losing streak!
Enough sports stuff- lets get into some TV show reviews! And Random Eye Candy!
I've become a huge fan of Harry Styles of late, and I highly recommend watching "The Policeman" on Amazon Prime. A touching, melancholy flick of being gay in England in the 50's.
Agatha All Along: First off, it is almost required viewing to watch WandaVision first before watching this show. Agatha All Along may be the most gayest show without being GAY, with an awesome cast, led by Kathryn Hahn, reprising her role from WandaVision, who slays it with her snark as Agatha, Joe Locke (of Heartstoppers fame), as Teen, leading a fun cast that includes Patti Lupone and Aubrey Plaza. It's all about taking a trip down the Yellow Brick Road (whoops, wrong story), Witches Road as these witches seek to gain some sort of power or wish once they reach the end, if they survive the trials. The musical numbers are very creative and fun, and I loved twists that popped up as we and the witches get closer to the end (I'm looking at you, Teen!). I will give a slight tip-off that the first episode threw me off immensely, until the end of the ep, so prepare for that, and prepare to watch it again once you finish the eight episode series! :) Both Agatha and WandaVision can be viewed on Disney Plus. Trailer below!
Penguin: I cannot begin to tell you how shocked I was on how much I enjoyed this. The trailers really don't do it justice, as this a very well-written, well-acted story of one of DC's most iconic villains. Colin Farrell, completely unrecognizable under the prosthetics as Penguin, really brings the character to life in unexpected ways. Three words can sum up Penguin's character: Impulsive, Delusional, and Shrewd. His only weakness is that he is a Mama's Boy to the extreme, which leads to some shocking reveals and his Achilles' heel when it comes to dealing with his enemies. Penguin has an uncanny way of talking himself out of sticky situations, and is a true survivor who fancies himself as "a man of the people", which has some truth to it, but what he really wants is the power and the penthouse overlooking Gotham. We get very important back-story about Oswald (Penguin's given name), that fleshes out some of the points I made earlier.
Farrell is surrounded with a great supporting cast, including Rhenzy Feliz as Victor, who by "luck", becomes a key ally to Oswald, as Oswald basically becomes a father figure to Victor. The main OMG standout role though, goes to Cristin Milioti, as Sofia Falcone! The viewer cannot take their eyes off of her, and she give a star-making performance as Sofia (she gets a very important backstory episode as well). Is Sofia crazy? Maybe? Is she smart? Definitely! Is she ruthless? (Oh hell ya!). I could write so many paragraphs about her, but that would spoil too much. Let's just say the final two episodes reach a fever pitch, with Sofia playing some excellent (and juicy) mind games with intel she has discovered that was just so fun to watch.
In the last episode, (teaser alert) keep an ear out for a letter that is delivered to someone (that was a huge surprise!), and also the very last shot before the credits roll!
Penguin is on HBO/MAX and runs for eight episodes! DC, you finally got one right! Nice thing about this trailer is you get to see sexy Colin sans the prosthetics introducing the trailer!
That's it for this week! Hope you enjoyed the updates, and the reviews! I will be waist deep in both College Football and the last F1 race of the season this weekend! Feel free to comment away with questions or your own take on the two shows I revealed!
