Why hello there- a good day to you, gentle reader! It was NOT a good week for your writer, as you will read below- note the brevity of the recaps- Was not in the mood to wax poetic, so a shorter read....the banner logo sums it up!
Cal Bears: Let's rip the bandaid off, Cal lost to South Carolina State, 24-23. The Bears had a 23-10 lead going onto the 4th quarter, but the offense could not score, and the weak Wolfpack team scored 14 points to win this game. Cal now has lost their last four games by a combined total of NINE points. Cal is now 3-4 overall, and 0-4 in the ACC conference. Sigh. Oh, and Cal desperately needs to get an accurate, reliable field goal kicker.
In other college games, #7 Alabama Crimson Tide faced off against #11 Tennessee Volunteers at Neyland Stadium in Knoxville,TN, and it was a grinder of a game, with penalties, turnovers, and in this classic rivalry, the game came down to the final minutes. Alabama was pushing for a score, but their quarterback threw an interception to roll back the tide, and the Volunteers secure the win, 24-17! The other big game was #1 Texas playing against the #5 Georgia Bulldogs in front of a frenzied packed stadium in Austin, Texas. The first half probably shocked the Longhorn fans in Austin and the national TV audience, as the Longhorns could only manage 38 yards TOTAL offense, and had three turnovers, and Texas yanked their starting QB for their backup. Halftime score: #5 Georgia 23 #1 Texas 0 ! To start the third quarter, Texas brought back starter Quinn Ewers, and he immediately led Texas to a touchdown and a two point conversion for a 23-8 score. Mayhem occurred in late in the third quarter when a penalty was called against Texas, and Longhorn fans started throwing bottles and debris on the field. The call was reversed, and so was momentum, as Ewers threw for a TD to make it 23-15, Georgia. That would be the end of Texas scoring, as Georgia scored another TD, and the defense held, seven sacks helped, and Georgia upsets Texas, 30-15. With #2 Oregon pitching a 35-0 shutout over Perdue, the Ducks will be quacking as the new #1 team in the next AP poll! (Update: Ducks #1, Georgia #2, Texas fell to 5th, Tennessee at #7!) Of note- both Army and Navy won, and both are still undefeated. And teh game to watch will be #12 Notre Dame vs. #24 Navy!
WNBA Finals: Minnesota Lynx and New York Liberty went to a decisive game five, and congrats are in order for the Liberty, beating the Lynx 67-62 in a thrilling overtime victory. It is the first championship title for the team, and a redemption of sorts after losing the championship to Las Vegas Aces last year. The Liberty team were one of the first WNBA teams when the league started almost 30 years ago, and haven't won a championship till now, having made it to the finals five times before; but on Sunday night, the Liberty torch was held high in New York.
Golden State Warriors: Have signed Moses Moody, a fan favorite, and excellent off the bench, or as a sub, to a three year, 39 million dollar contract! This makes me happy! Season opener on Wed against Portland with a fully healthy team. And in that season opener, the Warriors blew out the Trailblazers in Portland, winning 139-104! The game was so lopsided that Steph Curry didm't even play the 4th quarter, and the Dubs bench got a lot of game time minutes in. Onto Utah to face the Jazz on Friday, then home opener next week against LaBron James (and his son, Bronny) as the LA Lakers come to Chase Arena!
San Francisco 49ers: The Super Bowl rematch game- regular season style. Niners on their third kicker, but rookie Ricky Pearsall makes his NFL debut as the 49ers took on the undefeated Kansas City Chiefs at Levi's. Anders Carlson is the third kicker in three weeks the Niners have employed, CMC still out, Jennings out, Hufanga out, Deebo sick as a dog, basically out, and Aiyuk injures knee in late 2nd quarter. Six penalties, Purdy off his game till last drive, no running game gave the Chiefs a 14-6 halftime lead. Third quarter has Chiefs QB Mahomes throw an interception to Dominick Lenoir, who takes it to the 20 yard line. On the 1-yard line, Purdy does a quarterback sneak for the TD! Extra point doinks off the crossbar though, so 14-12 Chiefs. Absolutely awful tackling allows Mahomes to scamper 33 yards to the 2, where KC scores a TD to make it 21-12, start of the 4th quarter. Purdy with a 40 yard pass to rookie Cowing to the 10 yard line! And then Purdy throws his third interception in the end zone-ARRGH! Purdy and the Niners get a QB sneak TD, but fail on the 2-point conversion. Final score: Chiefs 28 49ers 18. Mahomes is now 5-0 against the 49ers in his career.
UPDATE: It's official- WR Brandon Aiyuk out for the season with BOTH his ACL and MCL torn. <sigh> UPDATE: WR Deebo Samuel in hospital with pneumonia, had fluid in his lungs.
If you ( I have!) have lost track of over the 70 million a year in contracts that are on the injured list a fan created (The fan did this before the Deebo news broke):
UPDATE: Deebo out of the hospital- Needed SOME good news to report! Late Breaking: Just before I was going to hit PUBLISH, I learned that Robert Saleh, recently fired by Aaron Rodgers....errr...NY Jets, has signed on as an offense consultant with the Green Bay Packers. This is yet another reason 49er fans are weeping. We fans so wanted him back with San Francisco!
Tennis: Janick Sinner defeated Carlos Alcaraz to win the Royal Slam title and picked up a cool six million dollars for his efforts (told ya this was a "money tourney"!) In Riyadh.
Baseball: I'm just here to report that the New York Yankees are in the World Series, against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Anyone who knows me KNOWS which team I want to lose.
Let's finish with some random EYE CANDY time! This fella has been popping up in my socials, a hot new model from China, Ye Hao, as taken the Internet by storm. I never heard of him until about three weeks ago, and now I have a folder of hot shots of this handsome, sexy guy, so you will be seeing more of him in future posts! <grin>
Thirst trappin' to close out this blog post! Enjoy, and have a wonderful weekend!
