Golden State Warriors:
This is a tough one to write up. The Golden State Warriors season has come to an end with the loss to the Sacramento Kings in the play-in game, 118-94. First off, I want to congratulate the Kings on a great season and a game they very much wanted to win, as the Dubs have been their roadblock for the last few seasons to advance further in the playoffs. I will also say that it did not help the Dubs that Kings forward Keegan Murray (a fan favorite), went off by dropping ten 3-pointers, nor did it help that the Warriors starting five only scored 48 of the team's 94 points, including an awful 0-10 for Klay Thompson. Golden State had some serious challenges this season, with the unexpected passing of one of their beloved coaches, and Draymond Green's suspension. Overall, the Dubs had the best record for a 10th place team with 46 wins this season. Hats off Golden State for keeping Dub Nation entertained! Questions for the off season: Will Klay and the Warriors work out a deal to keep the free agent with the Warriors? Will Chris Paul (CP3) stay or sign elsewhere? Who will the Warriors choose when the NBA draft rolls around this summer? On a positive note, the Olympics Men's Basketball team has been announced! With Warriors coach Steve Kerr leading the team, we get the added bonus of among all the other superstars on the team, Steph Curry will be making his first Olympics debut! As he said in a presser recently, "(A gold medal) is the only thing I don't have in my collection!" So Steph is hyped for the Summer Olympics!
SF Giants: San Francisco played the woeful Miami Marlins, and while starter Kyle Harrison had a good six inning outing, he left trailing 3-0. in the seventh, the Giants strung together some walks, hits and sacrifice flies, to take the lead, 4-3. In a bizarre moment, manager Bob Melvin called for a relief pitcher, but the wrong pitcher came out. This confusion led to the Marlins manager getting ejected, and after all that noise, closer Camilo Doval got the last four outs to secure the 4-3 win. Next game, Jordan Hicks started, and continued his great pitching, going five innings and only giving up two runs. San Francisco's bullpen though, through too many walks, gave the Marlins a 5-2 lead in the 6th inning. The Marlins held on to win 6-3.
I can guarantee you I did not see this getaway game, thanks to the 9:00 am start time. Starter Keaton Winn once again had a great outing, giving up just one run in six innings, and the Giants held on for a 3-1 win. Happy flight back home to San Francisco to face off against Arizona. WNBA Draft: As expected Iowa star Caitlin Clark was chosen #1 in the draft by the Indiana Fever. Stanford's Cameron Brink went #2 to the Los Angeles Sparks, and the Chicago Sky with two picks in the top ten, beefed up their team by choosing LSU's Angel Reese AND South Carolina's Camilla Caruso. Btw, Pre-orders of Caitlin Clark's Indiana Fever uniform have almost sold out! Additional WNBA news! It was also announced that there will be an expansion draft after this season in December for the new Golden State WNBA team! Still waiting for that team name!
El Farolito Cinderella story ends: The local feel-good story has indeed, seen its final match, as the El Farlolito soccer team, based on the famous Mission district taqueria, played valiantly, but at the very end , the other more popular and well known team, the Oakland Roots, scored a late goal to take the win, 2-1, and advance in the US Cup. A great underdog story while it lasted. Link to the game story below. https://missionlocal.org/2024/04/el-farolito-oakland-roots-us-open-cup/
49ers News: As the San Francisco 49er's prepare for the upcoming NFL Draft latest next week, the 49ers brought back a familiar face. Trent Taylor has come back home on a one year deal to become the 49ers punt returner. Taylor's appeal to the Niners to bring him back had a lot to do with Taylor having zero muffed (dropped) punts in the last few years when he was with the Bears. FYI: Star wide reliever Brandon Aiyuk still hasn't signed with the team, as of yet.
Tennis: Well, it was nice while it lasted. In his second match at the Barcelona Open, Rafael Nadal's comeback was ended when he lost to Alex de Minaur, 7-5, 6-1. Rafa says he will monitor his body, and is still hoping to be in shape to play his favorite, and most winning tourney, the French Open, in a few weeks.
Locker room buzz: Breaking news! China has agreed with SF Mayor London Breed to send pandas to the SF Zoo! It's unclear WHEN the pandas will arrive, but that timing will coincide with the building of a panda facility at the San Francisco Zoo.
Taylor Swift's new album has dropped! On a quick first listen of "The Tortured Poet's Department, I do like it! Some interesting collaborations especially with with the collaboration with Florence and the Machine on the "Florida" track! Little behind the scenes story on this track: Taylor is a big fan of Dateline (!!), and based the song on how so many people try to escape their lives and flee to Florida to reinvent themselves! "Fortnight" a duet with Post Malone, is the official first single, and it's a bop! The other surprise is that it's not just an album, but a DOUBLE- Album, with 31 tracks! So Swifties have a lot to listen to over and over. I will hear the rest of the album, once I am done enjoying listening on repeat Beyonce's "Bodyguard" and "Texas Hold Em" !
"Florida" lyrics below:
Oh, Since ya'll got thru this busy blog, I did promise some "Shameless" redhead eye candy. This actor was so good on the Showtime show, and looked good as well! Enjoy the collage and the weekend!
