SF Giants: On the first game of their longest home stand of the season, the Giants, led once again by stellar pitching by Logan Webb, and great defense, and some timely hits (I'm looking at you, Logan Webb's grandmother's favorite player), Wilmer Flores, played what manager Bob Melvin said was the "best game of the season", as the Giant's won, 5-0 in just over two hours! Nice start to the home stand! I cannot EVEN with this Friday game. Giants only four hits, Arizona with 22. Giants with only one run. Diamondbacks with 17! A pure ugly loss , so bad that SS and outfielder Fitzgerald pitched the 9th, and gave up the last two runs. As my friend would say...Onward! On Patrick Bailey bobble-head day, the catcher brought it! A splash homer into McCovey Cove, two doubles and went 4 for 4 makes you very popular with the fans, as does when CF Jung Hoo-Lee extends his hitting streak to 12 games and hits his own homer and a double. With a total of 16 hits after last night's nightmare, the Giants win a big game, 7-3!

Jordan Hicks started Sunday's game, and put in another good performance, giving up just one run, but the Giants fell into old bad habits, not getting a hit off the call-up D-Backs rookie until the 5th inning! Mike Yastrzemski got SF on the board with a home run, but that was not enough, as the Giants lost to Diamondbacks, 5-3. Quick mention: On a very obvious bad call by the home plate umpire in the 9th, both Coach Bob Melvin and third base coach Matt Williams got ejected. At least we split the series 2-2 with Arizona. Next up at Oracle is a visit from the New York Mets. Keaton Winn started, and threw another great game, allowing just one run in seven innings with six strikeouts. 3B Matt Chapman had a key double to drive in two runs, LF Michael Conforto smacked a solo home run to right field, and the Giants won, 5-2. Logan Webb takes the mound for Tuesday night's game, and he pitched a gem, going eight innings, no runs allowed, and was in complete command of his pitches. RF Mike Yastrzemski had three RBI's, and the Giants came away with a 5-1 victory over the Mets.
Wednesday day game, and it's a bullpen game, as starting pitcher and one of the Giants big off-season signings, Blake Snell, is placed in the 15 day IL (injured list) with a left adductor strain. Former Giant Sean Manea started for the Mets, and held the Giants scoreless thru four innings, and in an interesting move by the Mets manager, being up by six runs, with only one out to go, to be in line for the victory ( starting pitcher needs to have a full five innings to get credit for the win), he pulled Manea, depriving him of the win! That move has definitely been discussed amongst the Mets fanbase! As for the final score, it was the Mets who took the last game of this series, 8-2. Day off for the G-men, then the Pittsburgh Pirates visit for a weekend series. SF Niners: It's Draft Day in the NFL! The Niners have ten picks, and their first pick will be at #31. Will they stand pat? Will they trade up? What college players will they target for their needs? Myself, I want the offensive line beefed up to protect Brock Purdy and let CMC run wild! :) Update: With their 31st pick in the draft, the 49ers surprised a lot of people by choosing Florida wide receiver Ricky Pearsall. This pick might not be as surprising once you consider the amount of money the 49ers have on the books with current wide receivers Deebo Samuel and as yet unsigned Brandon Aiyuk and the huge payday QB Brock Purdy will get in 2025. In the the "universe works in strange ways" department, Aiyuk and Pearsall played together while both were at Arizona State! Aiyuk said later that the Pearsall pick "was fire". Looking at the videos of his play with both schools, both Pearsall and Aiyuk have a similar style of play; I especially noticed the vertical leaps Pearsall was doing to snag the football thrown high!
I'm posting both Ricky's ASU and Florida picks to answer a a query I got last night. From ASU babyface to Florida rough trade (is there any other type?)
Tennis: Rafael Nadal returns to the clay courts of Madrid and wins his first match, 6-1, 6-0. Nadal also indicated he would like to play doubles with Carlos Alcaraz in the Paris Olympics for Spain. Btw, Carlos won his first match on Friday to move on.
Spice Girls reunite! See, not ALL sports! :) Victoria Beckham (Posh Spice) had her 50th birthday party recently, and some old chums of hers showed up that joined her for an impromptu performance of the groups big hit, "Stop" for all those in attendance, including her sexy hubby David Beckham (only thing I know well about soccer!) grinning in the foreground!
San Francisco Pride news! SF Pride has announced that the multi-talented Billy Porter will not only be SF Pride's Grand Marshal for this years parade, but WILL be performing on the main stage in front of City Hall. A fantastic choice, and the parade goers will be jubilantly dancing on Pride Sunday (Last weekend in June!).
Rotating Restaurant reopens after being closed since 2007: The Hyatt Regency on the Embarcadero in San Francisco, has announced that after many years, they will reopen the rotating restaurant that sits atop the hotel. Grand opening is next week, and later in the year, it will be open to not just the hotel guests, but to the public. I've attached a link below for the history and details on what was called The Equinox.
And I can personally vouch for the fact of you go to the restroom, getting back to your table was a quest! :) https://sfist.com/2024/04/16/famous-rotating-bar-atop-sfs-hyatt-regency-to-reopen/
Locker Room Buzz: Lots of behind the scenes F1 (Formula One) news! It's been pretty quiet in the Red Bull paddock as they (and Max) keep racking up wins, but the buzz on this off-week is that Red Bull engineer (and a master at his craft) and Chief Technical Officer (CTO) Adrian Newey is leaving Red Bull for Ferrari, possibly during this current racing season. This would be a huge loss for Red Bull and a huge gain for Ferrari. Apparently, Newly is very displeased with the whole Christian Horner allegations of harassment and employee abuse by the Red Bull Principal (Horner). This is in the buzz, because many of my sources are running the story, but nothing from anyone (Red Bull, Ferrari, Horner, Newly), who is involved as of this writing has been quoted on record.
Ferrari has confirmed that they have entered into a major sponsor partnership with Hewlett-Packard! Free ink cartridges for Ferrari! Following that announcement, four teams, including McLaren, are in talks to bring on MasterCard as a major partnership sponsor. Perhaps this will give teams the money to stock up on their race suits....see next item! :)
For your consideration: Either Ferrari ran out of the traditional red race uniforms, or they are feeling the Miami vibe with this Azzurro Blue uniforms reveal. To ME, leaving the classic Ferrari red, even for one race, is a big, huge NO! Don't eff with the classic branding!
Ferrari drivers Carlos Sainz and Charles LeClerc in new blue mood uniforms.
Breaking! Just before I hit the Publish button on Friday, news came down that F1 Haas driver Nico Hulkenberg, has signed a multi-year deal with Sauber (will be Audi next year)! The driver musical chairs have begun, as there were 13 (now 12) seats open due to expiring contracts. The first buzz/rumor I've heard is that Haas has their eyes on young Ollie Bearman, who you may recall, filled in for the appendix-challenged Carlos Sainz at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix a few weeks ago.
A reminder of how adorable Ollie is from his Ferrari Academy days: Also just learned Ollie has contracts to race for Ferrari and also.....Haas!
Hope you enjoyed the post. Have a great weekend, and be kind to each other! :)
