Well, this was a week...and Sunday, May the 4th was with me, sports-wise! The world is on Pope watch, and the US President wants to reopen Alcatraz as a federal prison again.

A little something different with this post...like I did with changing the banner for this post to that stunning dress and 18-foot train of Miss Diana Ross, I am going to be sprinkling pix from the Met Gala, cuz I know my readers want to see the creative looks!

Breaking: In the 5th round of voting, the Vatican Cardinals have selected Cardinal Robert Prevost, born and raised in Chicago, and served 40 years in Peru serving the the spiritual flock in Peru as the next Pope. The Cardinal has chosen his papal name of Pope Leo XIV. Cardinal Prevost grew up a Cubs fan, so he knows suffering! Bless him and his journey in his vaulted role.

Golden State Warriors: Well, it happened. The Dubs were up 3 games to one, and ended up in a game seven win or go home situation. Friday's loss to the Houston Rockets in Game 6 was competitive in front of the home crowd at Oracle, but when you only score FIVE POINTS in the first seven minutes of the 4th quarter you are going to lose, which they did by a score of 115-107. i'm checking my convo with my fellow Dubs fan for the notes we made:

The team looked tired, especially in the 4th quarter. Dubs missed so many open shots it was extremely frustrating. Too many turnovers, giving up too many points in the paint, being brutally out rebounded, Rockets with too many 2nd, 3rd chance points. This stuff needs to be cleaned up if they are to win game 7 and advance in the playoffs against the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Game 7. In a true gut-check of experience and perseverance, the veterans stepped it up for this game, especially on defense! The offense committed only seven turnovers, had a plus 36 on 3-point shots, and Buddy Hield was the surprise star as he dropped NINE threes for 33 points as the Warriors won, 103-89 to advance to the Western Conference semi finals against the Minnesota Timberwolves! Jimmy Butler added 20 points, Curry only 3 points in the first half, but ended the game with 22 points. Defense held the Rockets to just 40% field goals as Curry was doing his community service as he was double-teamed, so Steph was dishing the ball to other players. Coach Steve Kerr extends his never lost a first round series streak. Coaches and players heaped praise on Draymond Green, who added a season high 16 points and led a bruising Warriors defense against the Rockets.

Game One in Minnesota against the Timberwolves, and Coach Kerr is rotating the starters with the bench to keep those starters fresh! Defensive game in first half, as both teams shot their first free throws in the middle of the 2nd quarter. Dubs defense was so good, that the Wolves went scoreless for almost six minutes. Dray doing his Curry impression, leading the Warriors offense with 14 points, and 3 threes! Wolves 0-15 on three point shots for the half! Curry out of game, pulled his left hamstring <sad face> . Dubs close out the half with a 13-point lead, 44-31. Wolves star player, Anthony Edwards only ONE point in the half! Third quarter finds Golden State increasing their lead to 20, as Buddy Hield led all scorers in the 3rd, 80-60. The Wolves Edwards did start to make shots, and is finally in double digits. Dubs Coach Kerr has used all of his bench in this game to keep players fresh. 4th quarter finds the Wolves offense dialing it up, as the Dubs go 1-11 on field goal attempts for 5 points in 5 minutes to bring the lead down to 10 points. But Jimmy Butler took control on the floor as the Warriors were able to hold off the Wolves and steal a game on the road, winning 99-88! Draymond Green finished the game with a shockingly high 18 points! Next game on Thursday in Minnesota.

Game 2: Okay, lets rip the bandaid off. Curry has a strained left hamstring and is expected to miss a week, meaning he would not return till a Game 5. Onto the game itself, and in the first quarter, unlike Game 1, the Wolves went on a 13-0 lead, already have knocked down four 3-pointers, the Dubs shooting poorly (6/17), and the first quarter ends with a 29-15 Wolves lead. Wolves got off to a 13-0 start in the 2nd quarter, dropping 4 more 3-pointers; Warriors showed some spark with the reserves brought in after Dray got a technical foul (2 more in any playoff game, and he is suspended for one playoff game), with Trace Jackson-Davis and Jonathan Kuminga with some much needed scoring. Wolves star Anthony Edwards injured his left ankle and is questionable to return for rest of this game. Half-time score: 56-39 Wolves.

Third quarter finds Edwards back in the game. Golden State goes on a 16-6 run to start the 3rd, and shrink the lead to 7 at the 6:40 mark. The Wolves defense clamps down though, and the Dubs don't score for over 4 minutes. Wolves close the quarter with a 25-5 run.Only TJD and Kuminga are scoring, while the Dubs defense sags: End of 3rd quarter score: 85-65 Wolves.

Fourth quarter: Not much change from how the 3rd quarter went. Full disclosure...stopped watching the game for the last five minutes as Kerr throws up the white flag and takes the starters out. Dubs had 17 turnovers (very bad) Hopefully the home crowd at Chase Center will bring the positive mojo. Final score: 117-93.

San Francisco Giants: After the bullpen blew a rare save, the Giants offense went off on the Colorado Rockies pitchers, winning the next three games by a large margin. Willie Adames, Luis Matos, Matt Chapman, Patrick Bailey were banging out hits and driving in runs, and played a large part on Sunday's 9-3 win, and raised starting pitcher Logan Webb's record to 4-2! Next up is a trip to the red-hot Cubs in Chicago! Pitcher Kyle Harrison, who was in contention for the last starter spot, has been called up from the minors, and will be in Chicago Monday night. Monday's game did show how hot the Cubs are, as Chicago roughed up starter Landon Roupp as the Giants lost the first game, 9-2. Verlander started game two, gave up only 3 runs, and Giants were leading 5-3 on the 9th thanks to a Jung Ho-Lee home run, but the bullpen blew the lead, so extra innings- and in the 11th, the Giants explode for NINE runs and won the game, 14-5, with Kyle Harrison closing the game! Last game of this series found Giants starting pitcher Robbie Ray throw 3 hit ball over six innings, as the Giants beat the Cubs, 3-1. Ray's record is now one of the league best at 5-0! Off to Minneapolis to face the Twinkies..err...Twins for a weekend series!
