Thought I would start with something different but stay true to the sporty locker room! Both the 49ers and Cal Bears were off for one weekend, so that gave me some chill time to recover from recent events! So due to recovering from Terrible Tuesday, the Eye Candy is going to be very random!
SF Giants:
Giants hire new GM to work with Posey, Zach Minasian. Blake Snell opts out of his 2nd year contract, becomes free agent. Giants third baseman Matt Chapman won his fifth Gold Glove and catcher Patrick Bailey his first ever Gold Glove, given out to players who are voted for best defense at their position! First time two Giants players snagged these awards since 1996!
Random Eye Candy: This actor has gone from twink, to twunk to hunk to Daddy in his career. Drop your guesses in the comments section! Clue: Robert DeNiro was his co-star in one of the funniest, raunchiest comedies I've seen!
Golden State Warriors: Won back to back games against Houston without Steph Curry.
Curry is back to play against the Wizards in Washington DC on Monday night (what a place to be at this time!), and they won 125-112, with Curry dropping 24 points and seemingly no ill effects of his ankle sprain. The warriors next took on the very good Boston Celtics, and it was a tale of quarters. First quarter good, second quarter, bad, 3rd quarter good, 4t quarter not so much, but the Dubs pulled out the victory with the help of Curry scoring 28 points, as they defeat the Celtics, 118-112. In Cleveland, Golden State was thumped by the Cavaliers, 131-114, who are now undefeated at 10-0.
Onto Oklahoma, and the Dubs bounce back to defeat the Thunder, 127-116! The Warriors return home after a very successful 4-1 road trip! Klay Thompson returned to the Bay Area, but as a Dallas Maverick player. Emotions at Chase Center were high, and both Klay and the fans showed their appreciation for each other. The game itself was very entertaining, with the Dubs winning, 120-117. Steph Curry scored 37 points, including the last 12 points of the game! Klay dropped 22 points on his former team, but the players and fans got what they wanted: An exciting basketball game.
Random Eye Candy: Don't get your knickers all "twisted" up in a bunch over this stud! Most of you will know who he is! And his big breakout role premieres on Peacock today (Friday!)
College Football: Top 25 teams: Pittsburgh got smacked down by SMU, Ohio State beat Penn State, Texas A&M and Clemson and Iowa State were upset in their games.. New AP rankings: Oregon still #1, with Georgia 2nd and Ohio State 3rd. All the teams who were upset dropped, but still in the top 25. SMU made the biggest jump, now ranked 13th. Big game for this weekend: Alabama vs LSU.
First major upset of the day goes to the Georgia Tech Yellowjackets, who were double-digit underdogs, knocking off #4th ranked Miami, 29-23! And the second big upset goes to #19th ranked Ole Miss, as they make history by beating a top two ranked team in Ole Miss history, defeating #3 Georgia, 28-10 in Oxford, MS! Georgia and Miami paid dearly for their losses, as they dropped in the rankings to 11th and 12th on the polls! Feel good story this season goes to Indiana (known for their basketball program), as the Hoosiers moved up to #5th in the rankings!
On Friday, the Cal Bears went to Winston-Salem, North Carolina, and won a wild one, beating the Wake Forest Deacon Demons, 46-26 in a crazy game that just had about everything! Cal QB Fernando Mendoza threw for two touchdowns and ran for another as he put up 385 yards on 40/56 passing! It's Cal's first win against an ACC opponent this season! Next up, the Orangemen of Syracuse!
Oh, and in the NFL, the Dallas Cowboys lost, again, and their quarterback, Dak Prescott is out with a hamstring injury for four weeks! New Orleans Saints are the second team to fire their Head Coach, Dennis Allen, after a dismal 2-6 start.
As for Sunday's games, the Minnesota Vikings did not score a touchdown, instead on relying on their rookie kicker making his first NFL start kicked four field goals the Vikings kicked Jacksonville Jaguars to the loss column, 12-7! In the game of the week, The Steelers and Commanders, two of the best teams in the NFL right now, played it down to the last seconds of the came, and Washington lost to the Steelers in Pittsburgh, 28-27. The Kansas City Chiefs remain undefeated, but just barely, having to block a potential game-winning field goal by Denver, beating the Broncos, 16-14! Lastly, Without Prescott, Cooper Rush and the Cowboys offense had a most putrid day in Dallas, betting crushed by the Philly Eagles, 34-6! Whoops, another lastly! In Sunday Night Football, the best team (IMHO) , the Detroit Lions, barely escaped with a last minute 23-20 win over the Houston Texans, who led for most of the game, until the Lions staged their comeback!
Niners News: CMC is on the practice field Monday, as well as WR Jauan Jennings and kicker Jake Moody! NFL trade deadline was on Tuesday (busy day that Tuesday!) and the Niners made a trade with the Houston Texans for Defensive tackle Kahlil Davis (who has played with the Niners before!) for a 7th round 2026 draft pick! He should help improve the 3rd down blitzes the Niners have been so weak at this season! Breaking: Niners cornerback Dominick Lenoir was rewarded for his excellent defense play the last few seasons with a five-year, 92 million dollar extension. Well deserved, in my opinion!
Random Eye Candy!
It's a twofer! Current tennis phenom Carlos Alcaraz today, and his idol, Rafael Medal, when Rafa was Carlos age! En fuego, Espana, indeed!
Niners Game: The team traveled to Tampa Bay to take on the Buccaneers. Rookie Ricky Pearsall snagged a 46 yard catch from Brock Purdy, for Pearsall's first NFL touchdown, later the Niners added a Jake Moody field goal, and lead the Bucs, 10-3 at halftime. Third quarter finds the Bucs recovering a muffed punt that leads to a Tampa Bay TD, Bucs tie the game,10-10 early 3rd quarter. Niners come back and had to settle for a field goal, 13-10 Niners, mid-third quarter. Tampa Bay opened the fourth quarter with a rushing touchdown, as Bucs QB Baker Mayfield is releasing the ball so quickly, and the Niners defense is gassed in this 87 degree heat; Bucs lead, 17-13. After a great Purdy to Kittle 40 yard catch and run, the Niners attempt a field goal, and kicker Jake Moody misses his second one of the game! Still 17-13, Bucs, mid 4th quarter.
After a huge catch and run from Christian McCaffery /CMC (he's back!), Purdy scrambles forever and finds Kittle in the back of the end zone for an 11 yard TD! Niners up, 20-17 with 6 minutes to go. On next possession, Bosa FINALLY gets a sack on Mayfield and Bucs have to punt! Moody misses ANOTHER field goal! Bucs drive in the last minutes, Niners hurt themselves with FOUR penalties in a row, but the Bucs had to settle for a game-tying field goal, now 20-20 with 41 seconds left. Purdy leads th team down the field, and Moody gets redemption as he nails the 44 yard field goal for the WIN, 23-20, 49ers! Oh, that little dustup between Deebo and Moody on the sidelines...all settled....it was a heat of the moment thing. The Seahags of Seattle come to Levi's on Sunday!
Formula One: Since they are off till the 23rd for the last three races, both Sauber drivers, Valterri Bottas and Zhou Guanyu have announced they will not be racing for Sauber after this season.
Random Eye Candy- Birthday Boy Edition: Did ya really think I was going to let this column go without giving my b-day flowers to my Zoom-Zoom crush, Lando ? #TeamPapaya
Weird stuff : North Koreans fighting for Russia against Ukraine have been exposed to the internet for the first time, and are "gorging on porn". Yikes! Two of my three weird stories are porn-related! This is still a Mostly Friendly Family Blog! Oh, Random Eye Candy! If ya know, ya know!
Television Series Review: American Sports Story: Aaron Hernandez. Fans who follow football know this story, and due to what transpired, non-football fans became aware of it when the crime hit the national media. FX takes on the full story in this ten episode anthology co-produced by Ryan Murphy (a very busy guy this year!).
Child molestation-Anger Management- Depression- Toxic masculinity, sexual identity- drugs- bad advice-wrong crowd- and concussions are many of the reasons that shaped Aaron Hernandez's tragic life story. This ten part anthology series, based on the biography, "Aaron Hernandez and Football Inc", is perhaps one of the best non-fiction biographic series I have seen, as it does a DEEP dive into Aaron's life, from a young child with a harsh father and selfish mother, to his college days of acting out , to his NFL career with the New England Patriots. The acting is outstanding; not flashy, just presenting the characters as they are, as is the direction, especially of how physically rough it is to be a college/NFL player, to Aaron's "demon" temper leading him to making very bad decisions. The show does not turn away of depicting showing us when Aaron is truly happy with the two men that were in his life, nor his hurt that leads to anger when those men are not able to give Aaron what he feels is true happiness. Also of note, that at the time, (1990's) the NFL wasn't taking concussions seriously, with an attitude of "walk it off", which definitely affects Aaron both physically and emotionally.
When the series gets to episode seven though, Aaron hits the point of no return, and the final three episodes focus on his wife, his peculiar mother, and the two trials, and his time in prison. The show last episode tackles Aaron's second trial, and his downward spiral that leads to his last act to close out his tragic life. In the final episode, as I alluded to earlier, Aaron Hernandez is one of the main reasons that the NFL finally got on board with enacting concussion protocols for players that are in place today. While Aaron's story's story was dark and tragic for many involved, it did at least lead to major protocol changes in the NFL that now protect players for years after his death, right up to today's future NFL players. Overall, a well told story from all facets; Acting, writing, direction, and editing. The promo I've attached below is more flashier than the series is. I finished feeling just how tragic the story was for almost all involved, and if different choices were made, or different paths were taken, how Aaron's life could've been different for him, and those around him. Definitely one of the best stories I've watched in a long time. Highly recommended.
Whew! That's a wrap for this weeks post! hope you found things to enjoy and entertain yourself with, or some interesting cocktail conversation pieces here! Have an awesome weekend! GO TEAM!
